According to the calculations of the Institut für Mittelstandsforschung (Institute for SME Research) in Bonn >> here, around 30,000 mid-sized, family-run companies each year will undergo a change in management or ownership in the years ahead. During this process, more than half (53%) of owners transfer their company to another family member (internal solution). A further 29% of transfers are made to external executives (management buy-in) or other investors outside of the family (external solution). Around 18% transfer their company to the existing management (MBO).
Particularly in cases where an external solution is desired, we can help the owner to decide how best to approach the transfer of their company using our cross-industry network comprised of family offices, strategic investors, private equity funds and, most importantly, successful executives planning to make an MBI the next step in their career as they embark on a new career path. If an MBI financed predominantly by equity is chosen, we can, with the support of a private equity investor from our client network, help the buyer to secure financing for the negotiated purchase price of the company.
